Writer, Director, and Storyteller
Billie King is a writer, director, and storyteller who creates books specifically to encourage children with disabilities and children who may feel different, unseen, or unsure of themselves.
She is the creator of the Built Different™ Book Series, a collection of stories designed to celebrate individuality, resilience, and the many ways children grow and thrive. Each character in the series faces challenges with courage, reminding young readers that being built differently is not something to fix—it is something to honor.
Through stories like Lefty Finds His Footing, Billie hopes children see themselves reflected with kindness and confidence, and that parents and caregivers find language to support conversations about difference, strength, and self-belief.
Creating stories that help children feel seen, capable, and proud of who they are becoming.
Bringing stories to life through theater, film, and community art projects.
Using narrative as a tool to help children understand themselves and the world around them.
"Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools for helping children feel seen, capable, and proud of who they are becoming."
